Senator Inhofe Sees Through Global Warming Hype
March 4, 2010 – “Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) is one of the few Senators who has always seen through the “global warming” hype. He’s faced ridicule in the mainstream media for his science-based views, but he now has the last laugh,” said TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty.
“The Climategate emails posted on the Internet in November 2009 have shown conclusively that most of the highly praised “climate scientists” are frauds who faked data and suppressed opposing viewpoints. The goal was to push a global governance agenda – regardless of the facts.
“Sen. Inhofe has recently released a lengthy report on these Climategate emails, and he is calling for the federal government to bring criminal charges against the scientists who engaged in fraud. Much of climate research is funded by the U.S.
“Sen. Inhofe is also calling upon former Vice President Al Gore to come before a Senate committee to be challenged about the alleged ‘facts’ in his book and documentary on global warming.”
The Climategate emails are important, says Inhofe, because they show the following:
This EPW Minority Report shows that the CRU controversy is about far more than just scientists who lack interpersonal skills or a little email squabble. It's about unethical and potentially illegal behavior by some of the world's leading climate scientists.
The report also shows the world's leading climate scientists acting like political scientists, with an agenda disconnected from the principles of good science. And, it shows that there is no consensus, except that there are significant gaps in what scientists know about the climate system. It's time for the Obama Administration to recognize this. Its endangerment finding for greenhouse gases rests on bad science. It should throw out that finding and abandon greenhouse gas regulation under the Clean Air Act--a policy that will mean fewer jobs, higher taxes and economic decline."
The Climategate emails reveal the politically-motivated objectives of climate scientists at the key research facility in Britain known as the Climate Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia.
The CRU and its staff write reports for the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). These IPCC reports are then used by governments around the world – including our own – to formulate policies on climate change/global warming.
In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has used IPCC reports to issue a finding that carbon dioxide is a pollutant that can be regulated by the EPA. Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant. It is one of the building blocks of life on the planet. We exhale carbon dioxide, and plants use carbon dioxide in photosynthesis to produce oxygen.
As Sen. Inhofe pointed out in a recent hearing, the Climategate emails show that there is no real consensus on whether man-made gases cause any kind of global warming. These emails also show that data has been faked.
The fallout from the Climategate emails on the IPCC has been significant and is growing. Journalists are uncovering numerous factual errors in the IPCC report on climate change for 2007.
Among the errors uncovered are these:
-
Melt Himalayan glaciers by 2035;
-
Endanger 40 percent of Amazon rainforests;
-
Melt mountain ice in the Alps, Andes, and Africa;
-
Deplete water resources for 4.5 billion people by 2085, neglecting to mention that global warming could also increase water resources for as many as 6 billion people;
-
Lead to rapidly increasing costs due to extreme weather-related events; and
-
Slash crop production by 50 percent in North Africa by 2020.
-
Incorrectly stated that 55 percent of the Netherlands lies below sea level;
-
Included a diagram used to demonstrate the potential for generating electricity from wave power that has been found to contain numerous errors; and
-
Used a biased report by the activist group Defenders of Wildlife to state that salmon in US streams have been affected by rising temperatures.
-
Downplayed the increase in sea ice in the Antarctic to dramatize the observed decline in sea ice in the Arctic.
The Climategate emails prove that the IPCC reports are based on fraud and dishonesty. They cannot be trusted, nor should the U.S. or any other government use IPCC reports to fashion public policies.
Senator Inhofe has called upon the EPA to reverse its faulty finding that carbon dioxide is a pollutant.
TAKE ACTION: Download and distribute Inhofe’s new report on the Climategate email scandal. Contact your Senators and Representative and ask that they read Inhofe’s report and reject any findings published by the IPCC.
