Where’s That Big Table And C-SPAN Cameras, President Obama?

By TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty

Where’s That Big Table And C-SPAN Cameras, President Obama?January 7, 2010 – Brian Lamb, the man behind the creation of C-SPAN, has just caused a firestorm of controversy on Capitol Hill by calling upon President Obama and House and Senate leaders to keep one of Obama’s campaign promises for open and transparent government.

Brian Lamb has done an excellent job of providing a balanced platform for Americans to view the political process and express their point of view. I don’t remember this ever happening before. The reason the press has jumped on this is because Lamb has spoken out against the Congress or the process.

Clearly, Lamb felt that the process was so corrupt, that he had to speak out about it.

In his letter, Lamb wrote:

President Obama, Senate and House leaders, many of your rank-and-file members, and the nation's editorial pages have all talked about the value of transparent discussions on reforming the nation's health care system. Now that the process moves to the critical stage of reconciliation between the Chambers, we respectfully request that you allow the public full access, through television, the legislation that will affect the lives of every single American.

President Obama had promised the American people before the election that:

I’m going to have all the negotiations around a big table.  We'll have negotiations televised on C-SPAN, so that people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies.

So, where’s the big table and the C-SPAN cameras running in the latest health care reform negotiations? Did the White House run out of big tables?

Instead, Obama and his Obamunist loyalists in the House and Senate are meeting in secret meetings without any Republican input to avoid any meaningful debate or votes. They are meeting in the dark of night to conspire to create one of the most dangerous legislative follies in American history: the wholesale destruction of our health care system.

Obama brings new meaning to the words “open” and “transparent.” Reverse the definition of his words and you get the actual meaning of his statements. Open means secret; transparent means opaque.

What’s Obama got to hide? What  are Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi hiding by meeting in secret? Why don’t they want the American people to know what they’re doing with our health care system? Who are they bribing this time around for votes? Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) and others got their payoffs for their votes on Christmas Eve. I suspect other Representatives and Senators are lining up at the Reid and Pelosi’s pig trough for their billions in taxpayer bribes.

In all the years I have worked in Washington, D.C., I have never seen such brazen corruption and deceit in my time on Capitol Hill. Every day I am astounded by how low liberals can go to violate the trust of the American people and treat taxpayers like brood sows for trillion dollar boondoggles.

I am convinced, more than ever before, that liberals can’t be trusted with any political power. They have significant political power now, but fortunately our system of government still works. We can fire them every two years. We must fire dozens of them or scare them into retirement.
