December 17, 2009 - Washington, DC- The Traditional Values Coalition praised Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Nebraska) today for refusing to yield to intense pressure from the liberal Senate leadership and the Obama White House who wanted the Senator to ignore his principles and vote to provide massive federal funding for abortion.

“Senator Nelson really stuck to his guns,” said TVC’s Executive Director Andrea Lafferty. “Now the White House, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi will have to find another bill to pump millions of dollars into Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry.

“Many of our supporters in Nebraska told us they hoped Senator Nelson would not surrender his pro-life principles to the extreme left wing which leads his party. They were right and we are pleased that there are men like Senator Nelson serving in the Senate.

“We wish the same could be said for Senator Bob Casey Jr. (D-Pennsylvania) who either sold out or granted a long term lease on his family’s pro-life reputation to provide cover for abortion activists in the Senate leadership.

“Senator Nelson’s courageous action marks a good day for the Senate and for unborn citizens of America.
