December 3, 2009 – On December 2, in a statement on the Senate floor, Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) admitted: “Just for a second – health care reform, whether or when you start in 2010 or start in 2014, wherever you start at, so it is still either $1 trillion or it’s $2.5 trillion, depending on where you start.”

“Depending on where you start at?” asks TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty. “And, just what do the American people get for this $2.5 trillion bill for government-run health care? The Congressional Budget Office predicts that Harry Reid’s health care plan will cause a loss of health insurance for 6.4 million who get insurance through their employer. An additional 10.5 million Americans will be forced into getting insurance against their wills in order to avoid paying a stiff fine mandated in Reid’s bill.

“But it gets worse under Obama/Reid Care. All Americans will be forced into government-approved health care plans with benefits and provisions many people may not want. Like helping fund abortion on demand as a ‘health benefit.’

“Reid’s socialized medicine plan will put a 40% tax on so-called “Cadillac” health care plans. This will target 30 million Americans in its first year and millions more later.

“The CBO report clearly shows that if Reid’s health care mess passes, Americans will pay more for health insurance and end up with coverage they won’t want or don’t need. This isn’t health care reform. It’s the destruction of the finest health care system in the world.”

TAKE ACTION: Contact your two U.S. Senators and ask that they oppose any Democrat health care plan. Nationalized health care is not the solution to the problem of the uninsured or underinsured American.
