November 3, 2009 – Senate Majority Leader Harry (Kari) Reid (D-NV) and Speaker of the House Nancy (San Francisco values) Pelosi (D-CA) have introduced nationalized health care plans in the last two weeks. Reid/Pelosi seem determined to force our health care system to crumble under the weight of heavy-handed government.

Reid’s socialist plan was hatched in secret with Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT), Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) and an unknown number of other progressives (code for socialists).

Reid’s socialist takeover of 1/6th of our economy has come to be known as the “vapor bill” because none but a few political insiders have actually seen the legislation.

Pelosi’s takeover of our health care system (H.R. 3962) is 1,990 pages long, includes a government-run health insurance plan, and requires insurance providers to fund abortions.

“Pelosi and Reid seem determined to destroy the finest health care system in the world,” said TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty. “And, they’re determined to raise our taxes and to punish us with fines if we don’t comply with their edicts.”

Heritage Foundation policy expert Brian Darling has noted that 40 Republican Senators have written a letter to Reid, demanding that they see the health care bill. Reid sent it to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) for a cost analysis, but he’s banning Republicans from reading it. Six days after Reid sent his vapor bill to the CBO, Republicans still have not seen it. Why?

The Republican letter to Reid notes that the national debt is now $12 trillion with a deficit of $1.4 trillion.

According to Brian Darling: “The Senators demanded ‘that you immediately make all materials sent to CBO publicly available on the internet.’ The theory on the Hill is that Reid has submitted many versions of Obamacare to CBO so that he can get the legislation that scores as the least expensive to the taxpayer.  The American people and all 100 Senators should be allowed to read the bill now.

Reid has just responded to the Republicans’ request by saying he doesn’t really have a bill, yet he’s sent something to the CBO for a cost analysis (scoring). In his letter back to the Republicans, he said: “Apart from my decision to include a public option from which states may opt out, no final decisions have been made – and none can be made until we get more information about how CBO would score different combinations.  In other words, there is no bill to release publicly – it does not exist.”

Pelosi’s Plan Will Cost Taxpayers $1.2 Trillion. Employers would be forced to purchase government-mandated-prescribed insurance or pay a penalty of 8% for each employee. Most employees will find it easier to pay the penalty and drop their insurance coverage – thus forcing employees into a socialist plan run by bureaucrats in Washington, D.C.

Here are some highlights:

-- Pelosi’s plan will result in 10.2 million seniors losing their Medicare Advantage.

-- Premiums will go through the roof and Americans will be forced to pay them.

-- Pelosi’s plan mandates that the federal government guaranteed that all Americans have access to abortion coverage!

-- Pelosi’s bill will tax medical instruments, including a 2.5% tax on pacemakers and artificial limbs.

-- It will also eliminate a tax deduction for employers who receive government assistance for providing retiree prescription drug coverage and harassing taxes on Health Savings Accounts, including doubling the penalty for non-health distributions and elimination of non-taxable reimbursements of over-the-counter medications.

-- Section 501 of PelosiCare imposes a 2.5% tax on anyone who fails to get “acceptable coverage” as mandated by the government.

-- Section 224 has broad language in it that will permit the Secretary of Health and Human Services to require insurance companies to cover sex change operations.

-- A “wellness” initiative such as in section 112(b) could be used to impose gun control!

-- Section 224 can also be used by HHS to require that all medical records be put into a federal database.

PelosiCare is a massive tax increase on the American people and a takeover of our health care system. Health care will no longer be between physician and patient. Big Government will stand between the physician and patient if Pelosi gets her bill passed and signed into law.

In addition, Pelosi’s monstrous bill creates 111 new federal bureaucracies.
