Traditional Values Coalition Sounds the Alarm and Issues Warning to Private and Religious Businesses and Establishments

March 23, 2009—Anaheim, California—“Liberal Democrats in the State Legislature have declared war on all private and religious businesses and establishments in California,” said Rev. Lou Sheldon, chairman and founder of Traditional Values Coalition (TVC). “If they have their way the new Civil Right of the day will be to persecute and punish private businesses owners and religious establishments. Businessmen of all kind, Beware!!”Traditional Values Coalition announced today that it has alerted its member churches and individual supporters throughout the state about Assembly Bill 941. The state’s civil right’s code is yet again being used as a tool to give cover and protection to homosexuality, bisexuality and transgender. The Unruh Civil Rights Act provisions would be amended under AB 941.  The bill declares: “This bill would…provide that all persons within the jurisdiction of this state are free and equal and no matter…their…sexual orientation are entitled to the full and equal accommodations, advantages, facilities, privileges, and services in all business establishments of every kind whatsoever.”

It would be a ‘Civil Right’ to persecute and punish Christian businesses and conservative private businesses owners! AB 941 is the newest scheme by homosexual activists in the Legislature to force every single business to forcibly accept homosexuality, bisexuality and the transgender lifestyle,” Sheldon added. “This bill is the most outrageous, controversial, unconstitutional, anti First Amendment piece of legislation to be pushed by Democrats in the statehouse.”

Under AB 941 the “conscience clause” right would be stricken. This right gives any person the right to refuse service or perform an action if it violates their moral and religious convictions. AB 941 has no “conscience clause” provisions in it. Therefore, TVC has sounded the alarm that this bill is truly about forcing religious beliefs to fall and bow to the beliefs system of the state. Businesses that do not comply with the bills provisions would be subject to civil rights violations, litigation and fines.

TVC’s lobbyist and representative at the State Capitol, Benjamin Lopez, said this of AB 941:
“In addition to this bill being an affront to the constitutional guarantees of religious practice and beliefs, this bill is one of the most anti-business bills coming out of Sacramento. This proves that Democrats would rather drive businesses into the ground or force them to head to Nevada or Arizona just to cater to their pro-homosexual allies. This state is on the verge of bankruptcy and needs every dime and nickel of revenue; it is foolish to force yet another unwarranted demand on all business establishments that many of them would find morally reprehensible.”
