Pro-Abort Lesbian May Be Obama Labor Secretary
December 5, 2008 – President-Elect Obama is considering picking Mary Beth Maxwell to be Secretary of Labor. Rumors are also circulating that former leftist Congressman David Bonior (D-MI) is a potential choice as well.
Maxwell is founding director of American Rights At Work, field director with Jobs With Justice and a field director of the militant pro-abortion group NARAL Pro-Choice America. She is described in left-wing blogs as a “union activist.” The Harvard College Democrats site calls her a “vocal progressive” and “labor-movement-oriented choice.” (“Progressive” is what current-day socialists call themselves.) A YouTube video on the Harvard site features Maxwell pushing union membership as a “human rights” issue.
According to one homosexual news site, leaders in the AFL-CIO and Change To Win are supporting her. The homosexual Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is expected to back Maxwell. (She is a member of HRC and the Family Equality Council – a homosexual activist group. She lives in Washington, DC with an adopted African-American son.)
David Bonior Also In Running For Labor Post
Former Michigan Representative David Bonior is currently serving as an economic advisor on President-elect Obama’s transition team. He may be picked by President-elect Obama to run the Department of Labor. This agency has a $10.6 billion budget with 16,869 employees. It oversees employment and training issues; mine safety, disability employment, veterans’ employment and training, occupational safety and health issues, etc.
Bonior, who served in the House of Representatives for 26 years, works as the Chairman of Americans Rights At Work, and is professor of labor studies at Wayne State University. He also worked as campaign manager on former Sen. John Edwards (D-NC) failed presidential bid.
Bonior has been a longstanding member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). In fact, earlier in November, the DSA’s Detroit chapter honored Bonior and his wife at its annual dinner. In 2003, Bonior was a keynote speaker at the DSA national convention in Detroit. He was also a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, (CPC) a group of socialists.
In 2002, Bonior, Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA), and Mike Thompson (D-CA) traveled to Iraq on an alleged fact-finding trip. Later news reports discovered that Saddan Hussein’s intelligence agency had secretly financed this trip through a Michigan Muslim front group run by Muthanna Al-Hanooti. During their visit to Iraq, all three Democrats used the publicity to attack President Bush.
A self-described Catholic, Bonior has a decent record on protecting the lives of the unborn, but on the issue of homosexuality, school prayer, national security, energy independence, and other issues, his record is dismal and disturbing.
Here are a few examples:
- He voted no on banning homosexual adoptions in Washington, DC
- He voted no on banning needle exchange and medical marijuana use in Washington, DC.
- He voted no on school vouchers for private and parochial schools.
- He opposes permitting schools to allow student prayer.
- He opposes drilling for oil on the plains in Alaska.
- He voted no on treating religious groups equally for tax breaks.
- He voted no on giving federal aid to schools that permit voluntary prayer.
