Obama Watch: Transition Team Leader John Podesta Is Former Radical Clintonoid Operative

November 13, 2008 – John Podesta has been hired by President-Elect Barack Obama to run his Transition Team effort which will select key officials in the new Obama Administration in January 2009. Podesta is a long-time left-wing radical who campaigned for Eugene McCarthy and George McGovern in the 1960s.

He served on the staff of Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and helped Leahy pioneer the practice of smearing and filibustering conservative judges who were nominated for federal judgeships.

Podesta also worked for Bill Clinton from 1993 to 1995 as White House staff secretary and Assistant to the President. While serving Clinton, he worked to suppress investigations of presidential wrong-doing and helped short-cut the impeachment of Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky perjury scandal.

Podesta is also well-known for what was called the “Project Podesta,” which was a strategy that helped Clinton push through unpopular policies that the American people didn’t want and that Congress didn’t wish to implement. One of these tactics was for President Clinton to use executive orders to bypass the American people and Congress. Some of these Clinton EOs included issuing an order that created special protected status for homosexual federal employees and signed an EO legalizing tax-funded abortion advocacy.

It is clear that Podesta will be doing the same for Obama. In fact, Breitbart.com reported on November 9, that Podesta is already working with Obama to review President Bush’s executive orders to undo many Bush policies during the past 8 years. According to Podesta: “There's a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we'll see the president do that. I think that he feels like he has a real mandate for change. We need to get off the course that the Bush administration has set."

Podesta is currently head of the Center for American Progress (CAP), a George Soros-created think tank that has positioned itself to be the leftist equivalent to the Heritage Foundation. Podesta was hand-picked by Soros to run CAP.

Last year, CAP issued a report designed to prepare the groundwork in Congress for the reinstitution of the so-called Fairness Doctrine, an FCC policy that would shut down conservative talk radio by forcing radio station owners to provide equal time for liberal commentators every time a conservative uttered a controversial statement.
