Bible Causes ‘Emotional Pain’ To Man Who Sues Christian Publishers

July 16, 2008 – A man who claims the Bible has caused him emotional pain is suing two major Christian publishers over their Bibles.

Bradley LaShawn Fowler of Canton, Michigan is suing Zondervan for $60 million and suing Thomas Nelson for $10 million.
His lawsuits were filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. U.S. District Judge Julian Abele Cook Jr., refused to appoint an attorney for Fowler in the Thomas Nelson case saying the court “has some very genuine concerns about the nature and efficacy of these claims.”

Fowler claims that the Bible’s references to homosexuality as a sin has resulted in him being an outcast from his family because of his homosexual behavior. He says he has experienced demoralization, chaos and bewilderment because of what the Bible says about homosexuality.

Fowler also claims that the publication of these Bibles can cause “me or anyone who is a homosexual to endure verbal abuse, discrimination, episodes of hate, and physical violence … including murder.”

“Fowler’s lawsuits appear frivolous and unwinnable,” said TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty, “but the effort by homosexuals nationwide to have criticism of homosexuality considered hate speech should be taken seriously by all Christians.”

TVC has long warned about the strategy of homosexual activists to pass hate crime laws making homosexual conduct a federally-protected minority class under civil rights laws. Once those laws are in place, it will be only a matter of time before criticism of homosexuality will be considered hate speech, which will be punished as akin to racism and bigotry.

Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007, if passed and signed into law, will set the legal framework for inevitable persecution and prosecution of anyone criticizing homosexual conduct.

Hate speech laws are being used around the globe to silence Christians and others who are concerned about the normalization of homosexuality in their cultures. This effort to silence free speech and religious freedom is well advanced in Canada and in England.
