Democrats Pulled ‘Hate Crime’ Bill From Defense Legislation
December 6, 2007 -- Today, the Senate-House conference committee on the Defense Reauthorization bill pulled a dangerous anti-Christian, pro-homosexual hate crimes amendment from it.“As TVC predicted, the Democrats pulled the ‘hate crime’ language from the Defense Reauthorization bill. While Senators fought to keep it in, House Democrats realized they didn’t have the votes to pass it. Additionally, Democrats were concerned, and rightly so, that they’d be perceived as being anti-military,” said TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty.
“This is a short-term, but significant victory for traditional values. The Democrats are desperate to appease their homosexual allies, so I expect the hate crimes issued to be back again next year after the Christmas recess. We will continue to oppose passage of any so-called ‘hate crime’ legislation that threatens religious freedom and makes homosexuality, bisexuality, and transgenderism federally-protected classes under the law.”
Two versions of pro-homosexual “hate crime” legislation were in play in the committee: H.R. 1592 and S. 1105. The House version was sponsored by Michigan Democrat John Conyers; the Senate version was sponsored by Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and Gordon Smith (R-OR).
