Federal Funding For Abstinence Programs Under Fire
May 24, 2007 – Liberals in Congress are working to defund federal aid for abstinence programs nationwide. The effort is being led by Rep. John Dingell (D-MI). He is Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. He plans on killing Title V funding by not reauthorizing it by the June 30 deadline.“Liberals want to destroy abstinence education in order to shift abstinence dollars into Planned Parenthood-type programs that basically promote sexual promiscuity and immoral lifestyles among teens,” said TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty.A recent Zogby poll indicated that 78% of parents think that sex education should place more emphasis on abstinence education rather than contraception.
TAKE ACTION: Contact your U.S. Representative and respectfully request that Title V funding be reauthorized. And, contact Rep. Dingell’s office at 202-225-2927 and ask that Title V be reauthorized.
