Marriage Protection Amendments Win In 7 Of 8 States

November 9, 2006 – Voters in Idaho, Wisconsin, Virginia, Tennessee, Colorado, South Dakota and South Carolina have overwhelmingly approved marriage protection amendments to their state constitutions. Arizona voters, however, defeated a marriage amendment. In Arizona 51.4% voted against the amendment; 48.6% voted for it. The results bring the total number of states to 26 that define marriage as a union of one man and one woman.

The vote tally percentage for each state which supported marriage:

Colorado        55.7% For      44.3% Against
Idaho               63% For         37% Against
South Carolina 74% For      26% Against
South Dakota 52% For        48% Against
Tennessee     81.3% For      18.7% Against
Virginia           57% For         43% Against
Wisconsin      59.4% For      40.6% Against

Colorado also had a proposed domestic partnership law on the ballot, but it was rejected (53.2% to 46.8%).

The outcomes of the state ballot initiatives on gay marriage prove that Americans are still conservative.

Before this election, 19 states had banned same-sex marriage; we now have won a total of 26 and only lost 1 (AZ).  This is a victory for traditional values!  The citizens in 26 states have said they do not want the definition of marriage changed to include homosexual couples. All seven state marriage amendments that passed do not allow civil unions or domestic partnerships. Arizona’s failed amendment also banned civil unions or domestic partnerships.

The U.S. constitutional marriage amendment (FMA and MPA) being considered in Congress should also be changed to exclude any possibility that homosexual civil unions or domestic partnerships are allowed. The current version permits states to legalize homosexual civil unions and domestic partnerships as counterfeits of marriage. This cannot be permitted.

TVC has aggressively opposed the efforts of homosexual activists to redefine marriage to include homosexual couples. Read and distribute TVC’s reports on this important issue: Special Reports.
