Loophole Needs to Be Plugged in Federal Amendment

Washington, DC – The Traditional Values Coalition (TVC) contacted its member-churches and supporters in Connecticut today and urged them to contact all state officials to oppose civil unions, a euphemism for so-called “homosexual marriage.”TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty cited media reports that Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell, a Republican, said, “I don’t have any trouble with the concept” when asked about civil unions at a press conference.

“Governor Rell may not have any trouble with civil unions but polls show that most Americans, including those who live in Connecticut, do,” said Mrs. Lafferty.

“Unless the people of Connecticut act decisively, they will join their brothers and sisters in another captive state, Massachusetts, as homosexual marriage is imposed on them by tyrannical courts and unresponsive politicians.

“The Connecticut amendment needs to be inclusive. It needs to prohibit all forms of homosexual marriage including civil unions and domestic partnerships.

“This also underscores the need to advance a federal constitutional amendment which protects marriage against such toxic political mischief. The current amendment lets civil unions slip through a massive loophole. We need an amendment which really does the whole job.

“Vermont, Massachusetts and now Connecticut are the ‘captive states’ of America. Judges and ruthless politicians there conspire to thwart the will of the people in an effort to win favor with the wealthy and powerful homosexual lobby.

“Some politicians will trade away anything in order to get reelected. We need to send them a message: selling out traditional marriage is a road which leads right over the edge of a political cliff. Marriage is the new third rail of public policy.”
