California Governor Signs TVC-Endorsed Parental Notification Bill
September 3, 2004 – "Thanks to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the parents of California will have more consent and discretion over what their child will be presented with in sex-ed teachings," said TVC’s lobbyist Ben Lopez on September 1.Governor Schwarzenegger has signed into law Assembly Bill 1925, authored by Assemblyman Ray Haynes. The legislation requires schools to notify parents if the school brings in outside consultants to discuss such topics as sex education or HIV education. Parents can then opt their children out if they wish.TVC sponsored this legislation to protect parental rights. "I am very relieved that Governor Schwarzenegger did not terminate this bill with the stroke of his veto pen."
