TVC-Supported Parental Rights Legislation Voted Out Of Committee
Summary: The Traditional Values Coalition has been supporting legislation in California that will protect children from explicit sex education materials. The bill was just voted out of a committee and heads to the California Assembly for a full vote the week of April 12-16, 2004.TVC is encouraged by a committee's nearly unanimous vote on AB 1925, a bill that will protect parental rights. The legislation will require that schools first notify parents at the beginning of the school year to identify guest speakers or organizations coming into the school to speak on such issues as HIV/AIDS education or related sexual issues. If the school changes the schedule, it must notify parents no less than 14 days before the speaker arrives to give parents the opportunity to remove their children from the classroom.
California parents are urged to contact their legislators and ask that they support passage of AB 1925. TVC legislative lobbyist and analyst Ben Lopez has published more details on this legislation.
