CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was calling to see if you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: Yes.

CALLER: Okay. Well, how much does it cost for that?

CLINIC: How far along are you?

CALLER: I'm not really sure. How do you know?

CLINIC: What's the first day of your last period?

CALLER: January 3.

CLINIC: So you're in the first trimester, so it would be $350.

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you know -- I'm kind of worried because like I'm going to be 14 later on this month and my friend said that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend's 22. Could he just sign whatever it is?

CLINIC: No. That's why we have to report it because you're underage and he's an adult.

CALLER: Who do you have to report it to?

CLINIC: We have to report it to the authorities.

CALLER: Oh. Well, well, what could happen?

CLINIC: They'll contact your family.

CALLER: Well, they can't tell my parents. I mean --

CLINIC: But honey, we have to. You're only 13. He's 22.

CALLER: So there's nothing I can do?

CLINIC: No, unless you talk to your parents first.

CALLER: But I can't talk to my parents. I mean, if they -- they know my boyfriend. They just --

CLINIC: But it's a state law, sweetie, and we can't go against that.

CALLER: But I just -- okay. Well, could I come in for a pregnancy test just to make sure?

CLINIC: Where do you live?

CALLER: I live in Cypress.

CLINIC: In Cypress? So you're calling the Cypress phone number?

CALLER: Uh-huh.

CLINIC: Okay. They're no longer open. We're in Long Beach.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: So we're probably closest to you, right?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Yeah, you can come in for a free pregnancy test.

CALLER: Would you have to report it then?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Did you take a home test?

CALLER: Well, no.

CLINIC: Why don't you do that?

CALLER: Well, I didn't know that they were right.

CLINIC: Yeah. They're pretty accurate as long as you follow the instructions. Why are you dating a 22-year-old guy at 13?

CALLER: Well, I mean, he's a sweetheart. I don't --

CLINIC: Yeah? But unfortunately with you only being 13 we have to report it.

CALLER: Well, what can I do?

CLINIC: I can't help you with that one. I mean, we just have laws that we have to go by.

CALLER: Oh. Well, if it turned out that I wasn't pregnant, could I get birth control from you guys?

CLINIC: You'd have to make an appointment for a pap smear. Those are $80. Or I can give you the number to Memorial Women's Center that's in Long Beach.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: They go on a sliding scale. Their phone number is 933-2998.

CALLER: Well, my boyfriend said that he would pay for everything, so.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: But if I was on birth control would you have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: So all right.

CLINIC: I'm sorry. I know. I understand that you've got family situations and everything, but unfortunately, like I said, it's a state law.

CALLER: Okay. Well, but if I wasn't pregnant you wouldn't have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No, because there's no reason. There's nothing to report.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: All righty. We're open from 8 to 4:30 Monday through Friday for the pregnancy testing and 8 to 1 on Saturday.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: Okay.
