CALLER: Hi. Do you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: Not at this clinic. I can give you the number of our clinic that does.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: It is 619-683-7538.

CALLER: Okay. Do you know like -- my friend told me that you guys have to tell my parents before I can have an abortion. Is that true?

CLINIC: No. How old are you?

CALLER: I'll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: Hold on one second, okay?

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: (new person takes over the call) Hello?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: You were wondering if -- I'm sorry. Say that again?

CALLER: I was -- well, my friend told me that you guys have to tell my parents before I can have an abortion. Is that true?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: No?

CLINIC: Because you become an emancipated adult when you're pregnant, but we do need an emergency contact if you were to terminate your pregnancy.

CALLER: Well, could I give you like my boyfriend's number?

CLINIC: No, it has to be an adult.

CALLER: Oh. Well, he's an adult. He's 22.

CLINIC: Right. It has to be your guardian.

CALLER: Oh. Is there any way that you wouldn't have to do that? Like because they can't find out at all.

CLINIC: Right. But this would only -- we need to have an emergency contact in case of an emergency.

CALLER: Like what kind?

CLINIC: Well, I mean, there are risks involved when you are terminating the pregnancy. There's medical risks involved. So if something were to happen in case of emergency we need to have your parents' number in order for us to contact them.

CALLER: I can't do that. Could it be like my friend's mom?

CLINIC: No. It has to be your guardian.

CALLER: Oh. Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, like if, say I wasn't pregnant, co you guys do -- well, do you guys do pregnancy tests there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: Do you have to tell my parents about that?

CLINIC: No. I don't have to tell your parents about anything. But what I'm saying is, there is a little portion on the medical history where we ask in case of emergency who do we contact?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: We need to have you fill that out with your parents' name on there or your guardian, whoever your guardian is.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? But everything is confidential, but we do need to have that emergency contact if you're under 18.

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you -- like my boyfriend was also wanting me to ask about birth control. Do you guys have that there?

CLINIC: Yes, we provide that here, and are you an established patient with Planned Parenthood?

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: Okay. If this is your first time and you're just wanting to get on birth control pills, we can provide you with a service called a delayed pelvic.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And with that service, we can see you pretty much every day.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Just give us a call on the day that you want to come in.

CALLER: But you guys wouldn't have to tell anybody if I'm on birth control?

CLINIC: No. We don't TELL people. Everything and all your services are confidential.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? But you were asking me if we -- you know, but we do need to have your guardian's name in case of emergency.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Why can't you use my boyfriend?

CLINIC: Because he -- you -- if you are under 18 we need to have your guardian.

CALLER: Oh.

CLINIC: Yeah. And if he's not your guardian then we can't put him down there.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Is it okay if we both come in and talk to you?

CLINIC: Concerning?

CALLER: Like the birth control?

CLINIC: If you want to get on birth control I can see you today I would say at 3:00.

CALLER: Okay. Well, I'd have to find out if he can -- I don't think he could take me today. But --

CLINIC: Okay, on the day that you want to come in tell them that you're interested in a delayed pelvic.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? And they can start you on birth control pills.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And call us in the morning when, on the day that you want to come in, and we can accommodate you some time in the day.

CALLER: Okay. Is it okay if my boyfriend brings me?

CLINIC: Oh, it's okay if he brings you. Uh-huh.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Okay. If I talk to him and he had any questions is it all right if I talk to you later?

CLINIC: Sure.
